It’s official and it looks like Loveland had a great weekend. The snow guns were cranking and the snow looked pretty awesome. And, was that guy really on a mono ski @ 1:10?!?!

A-Basin – A pretty blah video, but it shows how A-basin looks.

Whitefish – This guy didn’t let the lack of snow stop him.

Why says you? Because Loveland Ski Area in Colorado is opening today with an 18-inch base and the forecast is for sunny skies.Loveland Ski Area will be the first ski area to open in North America. So pull out your gear, scrape off that summer wax, and (skiers) crank your DIN back up (if you didn’t summer wax or crank your DIN down shame on you) and make some turns.

Trail maps are great when you are visiting a new resort and you don’t know your way around, but opening one in the wind and trying to get the stupid thing folded back up can be a little annoying. iTrailMap is an iPod Touch/iPhone app that will allow you download a trial map of the Ski / Snowboard Resort you want to ride. You can pan and zoom the whole map just like Google Maps.

Pros: Easy to use, many maps to download, can be used without internet connectivity or phone service

Cons: Some of the maps when zoomed in are blurry and hard to read, can’t be used with my glove on

Skiing Without Snow

So Loveland is already making snow, but Virginia is already skiing this year. Yes, I said Virginia. Check it out, it looks pretty cool. This isn’t too far a drive for me so I may have to see what this is like.
